Sacrificing for the Greater GoodThe sacrifice of something comparably small in exchange for the greater good seems to be a very predominate theme throughout the seasons of 24. Here are a few notable ones that I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure there are a lot more.
Season 1: When Jack offered to give himself up in exchange for Kim's freedom from the Drazen's. Not quiet as extreme as some other cases, but still demonstrating the theme.
Season 2: When Jack, then Mason, flew the plane with the bomb to crash it into the desert. Mason sacrificed himself for the good of LA, as Jack was initially supposed to do.
Season 3: When Chappelle must be sacrifice in order to prevent the release of more of the virus. Then later when Jack (whether he's bluffing or not) threatens to put Jane Saunders in the hotel with the virus, basically condemning her to death, with the only way to save her involves her Dad helping Jack to stop the release of more of the virus.
Season 4: When Jack had to sacrifice Paul Raines in order to save that Lee guy who possessed information to stop the rocket.
Season 5: Lynn McGill. Since the whole mess was his fault in the first place, its only fair that he be the one to sacrifice himself to save everyone else.
Season 6: Obviously, we all know this one. Jack being brought back from China in order to be given to Fayed in exchange for information that was supposed to stop the terrorist attacks. It was Morris that pointed out to Chloe that it was all for the greater good.
