Kiefer Arrested on a DUILOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Tuesday on misdemeanor drunken driving charges after failing a field sobriety test, police officials said.
Kiefer Sutherland attends a Fox casino party Monday in Los Angeles, California.
The actor was pulled over at about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles after officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn, said Officer Kevin Maiberger.
Sutherland, 40, tested over the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, Officer Karen Smith said.
He was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to Sheriff's Department records.
Maiberger said Sutherland was scheduled to appear in court October 16.
Sutherland won a best actor Emmy award last year for his performance on the Fox TV series "24." The series is set to return to the air in January.

We've all done it.
Just because he appears on television as a government agent, the press'll eat him alive. But he'll survive... after all, he's Jack Bauer...
Jack: "Chloe, I've got local law enforcement on my tail! Can you run interference?"
Chloe: "No, Jack! My system's refreshing. I'm being watched like a hawk, you know you're not allowed on duty drunk!"
Jack: "Damn it, Chloe! *hic* I'm heading back to TCU... CU... CT... U?"
Chloe: "Jack? Jack!"
Jack: "...you're my best friend..."

Its the second time in 4 years or so, but still if hes convicted he would have broken his probation.

Kiefer was still under the terms of his release on a DUI a couple of years ago...ouch. A hard nosed judge could make it difficult for him. As for his week, it just got worse. This is from the Candadian Press:
Kiefer Sutherland has lost his first gig because of his arrest for investigation of D-U-I.Sutherland was supposed to help give an award to producer Brian Grazer at a fundraiser for the Los Angeles police department on Saturday. He's been replaced by Ron Howard. An executive with the L-A Police Foundation says Sutherland's involvement would've been inappropriate.

Don't worry: he's only lost that gig because it's linked to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). You can't have a criminal at a police awards show!
His 24 - related activities shouldn't be hurt too much...

Lol 1 km over the limit won't get you pulled over, at least 5 km over would.
Well that's how it is in the US, most people go about 5mph over the limit, but not when there are cops around.

Depends, though: get a slow night and a pissed-off cop and they'll make a meal out of it and an example out of you.
Cops also play stupid games like Snooker, where they have to pull over cars which match the colours of a snooker ball in the correct order. Sometimes (and I'm being careful as one of my friends is a cop) they can be real bastards.

Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge in a Los Angeles court yesterday, and now faces at least 48 days in jail. If the judge sees fit, Sutherland could spend up to a year in jail. This latest DUI for Kiefer stems from a FOX Fall TV event that was held a couple weeks back in Hollywood. After the party, Kiefer got in his car, made an illegal U-turn, and was subsequently pulled over and arrested. The plea deal that Sutherland and his lawyers reached was interesting in that it ensured that Sutherland's jail time would not interfere with the production schedule of 24.
To make sure that 24 and FOX will not be adversely effected by Kiefer's jail time, Sutherland and his lawyers sacrificed what would have been a shorter sentence. As per the plea deal, sentencing will occur on December 21, which happens to be the day 24 goes on their Winter production break. At that time, Kiefer will have to spend his first 18 days in jail. After that, he'll go back to work. However, he'll have to complete his remaining 30 days of jail time before July 1, 2008. Also per the plea deal, Kiefer will not be released early, sent home with a electronic bracelet, or any other typical celebrity loop hole. These things are expressly forbidden in the plea deal. Kiefer will actually serve his time in jail.
Sutherland could have taken the easy way out and received the minimal jail time. However, he decided to put 24 and FOX before himself in this instance and do whatever he could to not mess with the show. Of course, one could argue that he already did mess with the show by driving drunk, again. 24 fans can now breath a little sigh of relief, knowing that season 7 of 24 will not be effected by this situation.

I'm surprise Jack has never become an alcoholic. Not that I'm an alcoholic, but the times that I have been insanely stressed (when our truck overheated and exploded on a mountain road, in the middle of nowhere with the horses in the trailer and it was dark and we had no cell phone signals) I find a nice glass of Tullamore Dew helps to calm me. I know that if I was Jack I would enjoy the occasional drink!

Definately not from experience this, but heroin is more expensive than booze.
I repeat: definately not from experience!

Lol. Thanks. So there, it would be easier (and funnier) for Jack to be an alcoholic.

I just heard on my local news (for some reason) that Kiefer has MADD - ironically - mad at him. Seems he was supposed to do a public service announcement for them. The he got that DUI, and they don't want him doing it now.

Sutherland Starts Prison SentenceSutherland Starts Prison Sentence
Kiefer Sutherland has begun his prison sentence for a drunk-driving conviction after surrendering to Los Angeles police on Wednesday. The actor was scheduled to turn himself in on December 21 when hit show 24 was on a scheduled hiatus, but as the current writers' strike in Hollywood had stalled filming on the series, he made the decision to check in earlier. The star will serve 48 days at the private Glendale City Jail, spending Christmas, New Year and his birthday on December 21 inside. Sutherland was handed the sentence after he was caught driving under the influence in September. He will wear a standard-issue orange jumpsuit for the duration of his stay in the 48-cell facility, and came equipped with reading material and underwear when he booked into the prison, reports Tmz.com. Randy Adams, Glendale Police Chief, insists Sutherland will not be subject to special treatment during his stay - and will be expected to perform laundry and kitchen duties like the other inmates. He says, "The fact that he's a celebrity - he checked that at the door when he checked in." Adams adds Sutherland was "co-operative" during the booking. Sutherland will not share a cell at the facility, as it is standard procedure for "long term" inmates to have their own accommodation, and the actor will serve the 48 days of his sentence consecutively. Earlier in the day, Judge Stuart M. Rice also sentenced Sutherland to five years probation, and insisted the star must complete an 18-month alcohol education program and attend weekly therapy sessions for six months.
