Hatred of Season 6

I don't see what people always talk about when they say that season 6 was terrible. I think that is was very bad compared to the other 5 seasons, but it was still amazing!
Josephine Marcus

Yes, see that's the problem. 24 has set the bar so high that it has become it's own worst enemy. Every show is gonna have a season that's not quiet as good. Before season 6, everyone complaint to high heaven about season 4. If you compare 6 to the rest of the show, it started out strong, but was dead in the water for most of the middle. It did somewhat redeem itself near the end there, but still. If you compare it to some other shows on TV *cough*Gilmore Girls*cough* then you see it's still a really good show!
slade

You'd expect it to be not as good as the others when they kill off a lot of the characters we love in the previous season.

Plus, i don't think the Bauer family line worked that well. Keifer's dad should've played Jack's father. He's better than the other guy.

I actually thought season 6 was better than season 4. The plot was better. However, I do think it tried too hard to raise the bar.
Agent Josh

I think, DSi, you got it spot on.  Season 6 wasn't bad TV at all, it just wasn't inline with all the other seasons of 24 that had gone before it.

In my opinion, they tried a slightly different approach and with most viewers of season six being seasoned 24 fans who have watched the show since season one; they were always going to raise a few eyebrows.

I think the fact that the main terrorist threat and one of the main storylines is resolved relitavely early on in series was a mistake.  Showing a lovey, caring side to Jack wasn't the way to go and ending the series the way it was ended was always going to be a let down based on how the previous two series ended on such an explosive high.

As slade mentioned, killing off a lot of some of the people we love and equally some of the people we love to hate was going to leave a big void to fill.

Perhaps season six was intended as some sort of "filler" between now and season seven, who knows.

What I will say, however:

Please.  No more Wayne Palmer for president!

I couldn't agree more. Wayne was the worst president in the series.
Josephine Marcus

He looked like such a pushover, and like he was just trying way too hard all the time.
slade

He didn't have the look, nor acting ability to be a president.
Agent Josh

Yeah, he sort of just blended in and tried to make a few crappy emotional speaches.

Why did David have to take a bullet and not Wayne? Grrrr..
whycantkimdie?

I'll bet this Allison womans like another David.
Josephine Marcus

No one will ever be better than David Palmer was.
whycantkimdie?

Yeah, but you know what I mean, she'll be able to deal with it.
slade

She's going to have to being that she's a woman.

LOL!

*resists the temptation to make a somewhat sexist joke at this point - but realises we're in mixed company!
whycantkimdie?

The writers would feel it was sexist to make her a crap president, i suppose.
slade

I meant it that she's a woman so she has to be strong.

While Six was the weakest season, I've never understood why everybody seemed to hate. It had some good stuff: Jack kicking ass, Abu Fayed was creepy as hell, and everything involving Daniels and Palmer was good.

The main problem to me was the whole thing about Jack's family, while the brother and father were good actors, the kid was horrible. He sounded like a whiny little *bleep* the whole time and the Marilyn and Jack thing put Jack in poor light, and was just plain stupid.
Josephine Marcus

I liked Assad. I was actually really looking forward to seeing his character developed more... but, that's 24 for ya.
justabill

After watching seasons 1-6, I too thought season 6 wasn't horrible, just  not as good as Season 5. I don't think ANYTHING can beat Season 5.  6 was good, but not great.
Josephine Marcus

Every time I watch 6, I like it more and more.

Disagree - Wayne was far better than the Republican who beat David for President in his reelection bid, and then went down and was seriously injured in Air Force One.

We didn't really see enough of him to determine whether he was a good/bad president.
nanou

I agree we didn't but he wasn't his brother!!! Lets see what the woman will do!!!!

I think when we start talking about "bar raising" we need to also remember ORIGINAL bar raising. While there is something to be said for "familiar ground", aren't we all pretty damn sick of "Presidential conspiracy, inept governmental baddies, MOLES, CTU/The main headquarters being sacked, bombs of every kind and Jack "being in peril, but knowing he's not going to die NOW, because hell, there's 11 more hours to go?"

It's time to get outside the box on writing and I think that's why I had such a rock in my shoe about last season.  The level of repetition was just something unstomachable after 8-9 42-minute sessions and I tried like HELL to be constructive in our reviews, but there can only be "so much" taken.

Does that make sense?
Josephine Marcus

Yeah, I get what you're trying to say. I think S7 will be very different, though, and hopefully get out of that predictable rut.
whycantkimdie?

Yep thats one of the most exiting things about it!
Josephine Marcus

And omg! It starts on the 11th!! <33333
whycantkimdie?

8 DAYS ZDZDZD!!!11!!!!!eleven!!!
Josephine Marcus

It's circled on my calendar in big red marker!! I can't wait!!!
whycantkimdie?

ditto!!!! (Except is was a purple marker pen)
Josephine Marcus

I already told everyone I know not to contact me that night. No disturbances.

I was definitely disappointed in Season Six, but I think season four was worse. At the very least, Season Six was consistently exciting. Sure, some of the side-plots were annoying (I busted a nut when they brought back the chinese) but at least it was, for the most part, a heart pounding affair. Season Four was not that good, it couldn't keep up a consistency. Their were a few very exciting parts to season four, but for the most part their were to many episodes where virtually nothing happened. Season Five remains my favorite season, it had a very solid plot and kept you guessing, and Henderson was a very interesting, smart character. Logan was well acted as well, a protaginist who was nothing more than a coward. I also got a kick out of Martha Logan.
