I can't really remember but i think it's because he had Jack's nephew. He was hanging by that pole. That's all i can remember.

Yeah but he had a chance to kill him instead of putting him in the chopper

The helicopter, flown by Bill is now about to land on the platform. Cheng is running towards it. Jack is chasing him and kills two hostiles, Bill lands. Jack blows up a tank on the platform, killing two more hostiles. The flames surround the helicopter as it lands. Cheng is incapacitated. Bill gets out of the helicopter to help Jack. Jack shoots at Cheng, and demands Josh. Cheng tells him that he's too late. Bill takes Cheng, and tells Jack that they only have ten minutes before the platform is destroyed. They throw Cheng into the helicopter and take off. Jack has to go find his Dad and later grabs onto the ladder hanging from the helicopter just as the F-18's blow the platform. Jack drops off the ladder to go see Audrey and Bill takes Josh and Cheng to CTU.

Jack had the choice to either capture Cheng, or to save his nephew's life, and Jack chose to save his nephew.

Yeah, but he coulda done both. Jack has proven time and time again that killing people doesn't have to be inconvenient. Lol.

I think he didn't kill him only because he believes that death for people like Cheng and himself in situations like these are a good thing in a way. He wanted Cheng to face justice. I mean, Jack already accepted death more than once. He believes it's a relief.

Yeah, he wanted to see Cheng rot in a prison for a long time, rather than having the easy way out. Not to mention the political embarrassment it will cause him
