I recently bought a really good book called '24 and Philosophy', and the chapter I'm currently on talks about whether it's a person's duty to give there life for the greater good. It's very interesting... But anyways, the point I'm trying to make, is that it brings up the following theory:
"...It hardly follows that Chappelle had a specific duty to take his own life or to allow Jack to shoot him in the back of the head - executioner style. Even Jack seems to realize this. If Chappelle is duty bond to die and Jack to kill him, then why plead "God, forgive me" before pulling the trigger? If everyone is simply doing his duty, then what's to forgive? At any rate, what if it had been Kim Bauer who discovered Saunders' Cayman account? And therefore Saunders had asked for her execution? ...would Jack have agreed that a bullet needed to be put through her head as well?"
I thought this was a really neat theory, and I'm eager to know what you guys think. |

I think Kim is the only thing for Jack what is above the 'greater good', because she's the only thing what is left for him. |

I guess Teri would have fallen under that category too... but then Audrey wouldn't have. |

I know that! But you're right, Kim and Audrey are the only he would put above his duty. I just thought it was a really good theory of Kim finding the money trail. |

I know!!! As soon as I read that, I wanted it to happen, just to see what Jack would do. I know he didn't want to kill Chappelle, but he knew it had to be done. But if it was Kim he had to make the decision over... |

Thank you! So what do you actually think about if Kim had been ordered to be killed. I don't think Jack would have had the same reaction! |

I agree with you 100%. Or they could of just asked Jack to put some duct tape over her mouth. |

I got it from Chapters. Completely by accident actually. I was there to get 24: Declassified - Storm Force, but it was sold out. So I was mad cause they had the next one, but I couldn't get it cause I have to read them in order. I was walking over to look at the western novels section, and I notice my boot is untied, so I knell down to tie it, and there on the bottom shelf of the philosophy section, I see the book. I opened it to that page, actually, read one paragraph and decided I must have it! |

I'm getting into the further section where they're discussing whether its a persons duty to die for the greater good, and comparing the situations of Sentox nerve gas (S5) vs. the Cessna nuke (S2), and how the charaters were put in situations where they had to chose whether or not to sacrifice themselves. |

I think George Mason had to more in season 2 because that save a million innocent people whereas Lynn Mcgill saved a room of Federal Agents who knew these risks when they took the job. |

AND Lynn got them into the mess in the first place. So really, he was just evening things out. But if you think of it in another way, they were BOTH going to die in a matter of minutes anyways, so it no longer became a matter of living or dying, but what they can do and how they die in the next 10 minutes. |

He could stay in and hoping for a wonder, but that's not a real alternative. George had a choice, so it's more heroic to me. |

You wouldn't know, what happened was he got exposed to radiation poisoning in season 2 episode 5 or 6 ish and told he had about 20 hours to live. When they found the bomb in episode 15, Someone needed to go down with the plane and Jack volateered but George ended up doing it as he was gonna die anyway. |
