Chat box

how about a chatbox/shoutbox at the bottom of the forum?

The only reason that I don't think this is a good idea is because users will want to use the chat box instead of posting, and many users will not post as often.

Yeah, I agree. If we had chat boxes no one would post as much. Maybe there could be just one chat room thingy on the whole site.

Well, I don't know. If it was somewhere where people could ignore it of they wanted too, but the people who wanted to use it had access, then it could keep everyone happy.

You can hide them individually anyway.

They go at the top of the page, generally just the homepage i think. And if you don't want it there's a minimize button to the right of it.

I was thinking just only one for the whole site. That way, if you want to chat, you don't have to chase other users around the site.

well its not that bad, i have one on my site, but the off topic forums are still very active, so the chatbox doesn't really cut down on the posts being made on the forum..some people dont even notice that chatbox.. but its there for fun.. you could make it displayed when you click on it, and hide when you click on it.. Wink

I think there should be a difference between a chat and a forum.
A chat could be nice for a event or when the admin expects a lot of visitors
and want to communicate in a fast manner.
Though it will be a lost of new threads and posts

I agree, these things are bad when you're trying to get users to post in the forum itself.
